Established by the founders of Bubblegum Club, the Bubblegum Residency programme has been running with the aim to support, platform and develop the careers of emerging artists. Since the launch of both our artist residency program and gallery space with our first resident, Muofhe Manavhela and her show, 12 seconds, our commitment to supporting our local art community and the young people that create and dream within it has only grown.
With this said, we’re excited to announce the open call for our 8th residency which will take place during the month of September 2022.
Whether your practice finds articulation through the form of painting, drawing, sculpture or textile art — you name it — we are interested. The month long residency programme will take place at the Bubblegum Gallery — with on-site studio space for the selected artist — and is purely production based. Therefore, artists who submit developed ideas with a thorough production plan will stand a greater chance of selection.
The selected artist will receive a studio space to work from, curatorial support along with press and marketing support, and a stipend totalling R5000 for the production and exhibiting of their work at the Bubblegum Gallery in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Although located in Joburg, applications are also open to artists who live outside of the city. However, these individuals will be responsible for their own transport to and from the city, as well as for their own accommodation and living expenses while in Joburg.
Application Deadline: 26 August, 2022
