As July comes to a close, here are some cool activities and events to attend to keep you well entertained.

3. Thor: Love and Thunder
The latest in the world of superhero madness – Chris Hemsworth’s Thor returns to the big screen with his 4th film. In this second MCU outing by director Taika Waititi, Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct.
The film is rather imaginative and definitely a fun ride throughout. Christian Bale’s (The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Prestige) performance as Gorr is immaculate and arguably the most stand out thing about this film. If you’re looking for a fun time with minimal thinking and maximum saturation involved, then this is the film for you.

4. Strauss and Co – Dream Invisible Connections
In the fourth in a series of legacy exhibitions pairing prominent South African artists, Strauss & Co renews its commitment to education with its latest exhibition. Curated by Strauss & Co art specialists Arisha Maharaj and Wilhelm van Rensburg, Dream Invisible Connections the exhibition juxtaposes the work of two historically important South African artists, Dorothy Kay and Mary Sibande.

5. Zeitz – Walking the peripheries
Walking the Peripheries is an exhibition of artwork by grade twelve learners from high schools and art centres in Cape Town. This is the culmination of an education project inspired by the retrospective exhibition Shooting Down Babylon by Tracey Rose, which currently on display at Zeitz MOCAA until 28 August 2022.
6. Everard Read – Gina Heyer’s STILL
Currently on display at Everard Read Cape Town: STILL is a solo exhibition of paintings by Gina Heyer. The nine years spent completing STILL, Gina Heyer’s third solo show, have been distilled and embedded into these ten paintings. With this photorealistic body of work, Heyer places the viewer alongside herself in the interminable time of empty hospital passages. Brush marks are delicately eased away to create a sense of timelessness, and through her seductively slow layering of paint these utilitarian spaces are transformed into sites for deep contemplation. Like an insect trapped in amber, an instant of light shining on a surface is caught and slowed down to an eternal frame.
